Read: Matthew 5:9
‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.’
Observe:
My personal interpretation of Matthew 5:9 is that as a child of God, the person would actively work towards peace and promotes peace. If peace can be bought at a price, many are willing to fork out a fortune to buy peace. Many would appreciate peace but try to find it in the wrong places. Some think peace is found in holidays. Some try to get peace by shutting people out or running away from responsibility. On the other hand, I find that to cultivate or foster peace, takes effort, patience and humility.
When you are being wrong, the natural response is to fight back and prove our innocence. When we are being shouted at, we are likely to shout back. When we get hit, the response is to retaliate. I wonder what would happen if Jesus requested for a lawyer to defend himself from the accusations. To prove that his innocence, Jesus called up those whom he has healed and resurrect. Jesus could be more productive in healing more people and pointing people to God than having to sit through the trial.
Besides seeking justice, Jesus saw and sought for something greater than what he is going through. Jesus knew the truth and is the Truth; and He chose to do the Father’s will. Jesus endured everything done to Him and was on the cross. His sacrifice established an everlasting covenant between Man and God. Through the Prince of Peace, we are given the chance to be children of God.
Apply & Do:
May I be still and wait upon the Lord for guidance and wisdom when there’s a chance to promote and foster peace. Not relying on my flesh to attain peace but be a peacemaker on God’s terms and conditions. I should learn from Jesus about being a peacemaker whenever I feel the urge to retaliate.
Prayer:
Dear God, may I be your peacemaker wherever you sent me. May I be your symbol of peace, love and joy in my home, my workplace and in church. Help me to choose Your will over my own feelings. Amen.
